In honor of Black History Month, 起点传媒 will host the Annual Black History Month Celebration, featuring Claudia Rankine's Citizen: An American Lyric, an evening of spoken word and jazz. Claudia Rankine's Citizen: An American Lyric is selected as the National Endowment for the Arts Great Big Read. This riveting compilation of racial criticism cloaked in poetry, drawings, and sculptures depicted within the Citizen is the backdrop for 起点传媒 students, representing the MFA Creative Writing Program, Floetic Movement, and Black Student Alliance, and renowned faculty poets as they convey their spoken word creations in response to and critique of Citizen: An American Lyric. Faculty presenters include Remica Bingham-Risher, Tim Seibles, Luisa Igloria, Renee Olander, Sheri Reynolds, Delores Phillips, and Kelly Morse. The nationally acclaimed Fuzz Band will showcase instrumental jazz pieces that artistically captures musical imaginations depicting the scope of racism and microagressions. Refreshments provided.
